⚜️ Easy Moussaka Recipe

The Moussaka, a dish originating from the eastern part of the Mediterranean basin rich and complete and is perfect for Sunday dinners with family or friends. A kind of Greek-style lasagna.

Each region has its own version and even the Greek versions have infinite varieties. The best way is to prepare the sauce and let it simmer quietly. Grill the eggplants in olive oil for more flavor and finally prepare the béchamel sauce.

The Moussaka consists of several layers of meat, eggplants, and white sauce (béchamel sauce). This dish was made famous by the chef Nicolas Tselementes.

I propose to you today the traditional version based on eggplant, classic tomato sauce, and also the bechamel. A hearty dish that is sufficient on its own, no need for accompaniment or starter.

Concerning the Béchamel Sauce, you can use your own béchamel sauce or the recipe here.

🚩Instructions :

   1. Cut the eggplants into thin slices, then put them in a container, salt them and leave them to drain for 5 minutes. Rinse them, drain them and fry them in 4 tablespoons of olive oil until golden brown. Then put them in a dish covered with absorbent paper to remove the excess oil.

  2. Prepare the béchamel sauce: heat the butter in a saucepan and add the flour. Mix with a wooden spatula and then add the cold milk gradually, stirring constantly with a whisk. Season with salt and pepper and grate the nutmeg.

  3. Prepare the meat and the sauce: cook the minced meat in 1 tablespoon of olive oil with the finely chopped onion, garlic, peeled and finely diced tomatoes, and chopped chives. Add the water. Add salt and pepper to taste and cook for 10 minutes.

  4. Preheat the oven th.6 (180°C). Take a baking dish and brush it with olive oil. Arrange the slices of eggplant next to each other to make a layer, cover with meat and tomato sauce, then cover with a layer of eggplant and so on until the end, finish with eggplant. Cover with the béchamel sauce and the grated cheese all over the dish and put a few knobs of butter. Bake for 25 min.

  5. Let stand and then serve hot with a rice timbale or a well-seasoned salad.

🚩 Tips :

✔️The authentic recipe is prepared with ground lamb, but it is quite possible to replace it with beef. And moussaka can also become a great vegetarian dish if you don't put meat in it. The choice is yours

Enjoy it...Bon appetit
