Coleslaw recipe

 What coleslaw

Coleslaw is a salad of carrots and cabbage, with mayonnaise and a vinegar mixture. Although this dish is originally American, the Irish regularly eat this salad as a side dish with fish, meat, a sandwich or hamburger...etc. Although it is not a very healthy dish, it has the merit to give us a good conscience by eating vegetables!

What's coleslaw good for

Coleslaw is not usually served as a stand-alone dish. The Irish prefer it as a side dish to fish and chips or other typical Irish specialties

What's coleslaw made of?

Coleslaw is made with the most important vegetables of Irish food: cabbage and carrots, which are cut and grated and seasoned with a mixture of mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, and lemon. The mixture gives a very particular sweet and salty taste, which enchants the refractory to green vegetables...

Anyway, the use of so much fat in the preparation of a salad makes Coleslaw a dish that is anything but healthy! But it is so good!

It is possible to vary the pleasures with the multitude of existing variations. Red cabbage, fennel seeds, apple, grated cheese, or pineapple chunks can be added to our American salad, which has everything to make us love it.

🚩Ingredients :

  ✔️ 1/2 white cabbage
  ✔️ 3 carrots
  ✔️50 g white raisin
  ✔️ 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise
✔️3 tablespoons of plain white yogurt
  ✔️1 tablespoon of sugar
  ✔️1 tablespoon of vinegar
  ✔️salt and pepper
  ✔️1 granny apple (optional)

🚩Instructions :

1-Wash the white cabbage half and cut it into thin strips to obtain a julienne.

2-Wash the carrots and grate them finely.

Wash and grate the Granny apple.

3-Mix the cabbage, carrots, and apple in a large bowl.

4-Take a small bowl and add the mayonnaise, plain white yogurt, sugar, vinegar, salt, and pepper.

5-Mix the mixture until you have a smooth sauce.

6-Pour the dressing over the salad, mix and place the Coleslaw in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.

✔️ If you prefer a crunchy salad, eat it as soon as you finish preparing it. If you like a softer salad, put it in the fridge for 1 hour.

✔️You can soak the raisins in very hot water for about ten minutes. Then drain them and add them to the salad.

✔️Everyone can personalize their Coleslaw: add a green apple cut into small pieces, replace the white cabbage with red cabbage or Chinese cabbage, add 1 tablespoon of liquid honey or old-fashioned mustard, use cider vinegar instead of white balsamic vinegar, complete with a few thin strips of smoked salmon or small shrimps... Bon appétit.

Enjoy it...Bon appetit
